Little did Christina Beardsley think when she joined Michelle O’Brien in co-editing the first Sibyls book, This is my body: hearing the theology of transgender Christians’, that it would be Volume 1 of a trilogy. But this is what’s happened! Volume 2 has now been released. Volume 3, will be a very practical, ‘how to do it’ book for churches about making Christian communities safe and welcoming for trans people and their loved ones. It will be published by Jessica Kingsley.

many years we have been annoyed and concerned that other religious
people kept writing things about us while our own experience as
transgender Christians was nowhere represented in this literature. The
Sibyls Book is published by internationally-respected religious
publisher Darton, Longman and Todd. It was released in May 2016. The
book’s title is “This Is My Body: Hearing the Theology of Transgender
Christians" and it is available in two formats: an e-book version and a
paperback version. The recommended retail price for the the paperback is £14.99, plus postage and packing. The book is available
on Amazon in paperback and Kindle versions and in other bookshops. We are hoping that people will buy
at least one copy, as well as additional copies to pass on to their
friends and church leadership.

This paper was presented at the conference "TO HAVE AND TO HOLD - THE THEOLOGY OF MARRIAGE". SATURDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2014 AT ST JOHN'S WATERLOO
The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 has eliminated the need for a couple to divorce when one of them transitions, but has raised other problems, particularly the requirement of spousal consent to Gender Recognition, and the backdating of pension rights.
This experiential workshop reflected theologically on marriage in the light of these and other realities of trans people’s lives and relationships. It was led by two trans people, Susan Gilchrist and Tina Beardsley, who are both members of the Sibyls, and have each been with their partner for over four decades. Both are married to their partner: one for the whole of that time, the other following transition.
This event has been held
A weekend specifically for couples for whom at least one partner is a member of the Sibyls is being planned. This is intended to help couples work through these issues together. For more information email
